Anxiety is something so many of us quietly carry.

Some days it shows up as racing thoughts. Other days it feels like a heavy weight in your chest that you can’t quite explain. If you’re navigating the stress of midlife, family, work, hormones, and everything else life throws at us, those anxious moments can feel overwhelming.

I want to share something personal here: while science helps us understand why anxiety happens in the body, my faith has helped me learn how to handle it.

The Bible talks about anxiety in a way that still feels incredibly relevant today. Long before we had modern medicine or research on stress hormones, scripture was already teaching us powerful ways to respond when worry starts to take over.

And the message is both simple and comforting: we were never meant to carry our worries alone.

The Bible Acknowledges That Anxiety Is Real

One thing I appreciate about scripture is that it never pretends life is easy. It recognizes that people experience fear, uncertainty, and worry.

In Philippians 4:6–7, we are reminded:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Notice that it doesn’t say anxiety will never appear. Instead, it gives us a path for what to do when it does.

The guidance is to bring those worries to God through prayer rather than carrying them alone.

Letting Go of the Things We Can’t Control

Anxiety often comes from trying to control things that are ultimately outside of our control.

Health concerns.
Our children.
The future.
Uncertainty about what’s ahead.

Sound familiar?

In Matthew 6:34, Jesus reminds us:

“Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

This verse gently encourages us to return our focus to the present moment rather than letting our minds spiral into the “what ifs.”

Trusting That God Is Carrying What We Cannot

One of the most comforting verses about anxiety is found in 1 Peter 5:7:

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

Think about that phrase for a moment — cast your anxiety.

It means releasing it. Handing it over. Letting God hold what feels too heavy for us.

That doesn’t mean life suddenly becomes stress-free. But it reminds us that we don’t have to carry everything ourselves.

Finding Peace Through Prayer and Stillness

Another lesson the Bible teaches about anxiety is the importance of slowing down and creating space for peace. This one specifically reminds me to trust in Him. God’s got it.

Psalm 46:10 says:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

In a world that constantly tells us to move faster, do more, and think about everything at once, that message feels incredibly powerful.

Sometimes the most healing thing we can do is pause, breathe, pray, and remind ourselves that God is still in control—even when life feels chaotic.

A Personal Reflection

As a woman navigating the busy seasons of life myself—family, career, hormones, responsibilities—I know how easy it is for anxiety to creep in.

But keeping these passages close and reminding myself daily has helped me shift my perspective.

Instead of trying to carry every worry on my own shoulders, I’m learning to pause, pray, and trust that God is walking beside me through it all.

And if you’re feeling overwhelmed right now, I want you to remember this:

You are not alone.
Your worries matter.
And there is peace available—even in the middle of uncertainty.

A Gentle Reminder

If anxiety has been weighing heavily on you lately, take a moment today to pause. Say a simple prayer. Take a deep breath and remind yourself that you don’t have to have every answer today.

Sometimes the first step toward peace is simply surrendering the weight of our worries to God.
