I officially made it through Week 1 on GLP-1—and I have a lot of thoughts.

If you read my last post, you know this wasn’t a decision I took lightly. I went into this wanting to be fully aware, intentional, and honest about the entire process.

So this post is exactly that.

No filters. No exaggeration. Just my real experience—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Going Into Week 1

Before starting, I wasn’t necessarily scared—but I was very aware.

I had done the research. I knew what could happen:

  • Nausea
  • Appetite suppression
  • Fatigue
  • GI symptoms

And I think that made me more observant of everything I was feeling.

I told myself going into this:
Just pay attention to your body. No pressure. No expectations.

The First Few Days

The first few days were… interesting.

The biggest thing I noticed pretty quickly was a shift in my appetite.

It wasn’t extreme, but it was noticeable:

  • I wasn’t thinking about food as often
  • I felt full faster
  • Cravings felt quieter

And that alone felt different.

Not in a dramatic way—but in a subtle, almost calming way.

I was never a big eater, but I was an emotional snacker. The more I stressed…the more I snacked. But that constant feeling of anxiety has subsided, and now I don’t reach for the snacks anymore. Which is kind of weird to be honest, since I’ve done it my whole adult life.

Physical Symptoms

I want to be very real here—because I know this is what most people are curious about.

For me, Week 1 looked like this:

  • Mild nausea at times (nothing unbearable, but definitely present)
  • Slight decrease in appetite
  • Increase in energy
  • No major GI issues

Everything felt manageable, but I was very aware of my body adjusting.

💡 Important: Everyone’s experience is different—this is just mine.

The Mental Shift (This Surprised Me)

This was probably the most unexpected part.

I felt clear-headed for the first time since I could remember. I’ve always had some level of stress inside since I was a child. My thoughts raced. My cortisol was high. My body was in a constant state of survival mode.

But now, I no longer feel foggy-headed or have racing thoughts. I actually feel normal. I thought the biggest change would be my weight…but it’s actually my anxiety.

Hm, okay. Lets piece this together…..together.

I am nearly 40. I’m in my perimenopausal stage so my hormones are out of wack. I’ve lived with anxiety my entire life. Could this GLP-1 be helping with a hormonal imbalance?

I will definitely be researching this further and will get back to you!

What Felt Easy vs What Felt Challenging

What felt easier:

  • Portion control
  • Not snacking mindlessly
  • Feeling clear headed

What felt challenging:

  • Making sure I was eating enough
  • Staying hydrated
  • Navigating mild nausea at times

It’s not a magic switch—it still requires intention.

What I’m Focusing On Moving Forward

Going into Week 2, my focus is simple:

  • Prioritizing protein
  • Staying hydrated
  • Listening to my body (not ignoring it)
  • Supporting my overall health—not just focusing on weight

Because for me, this is bigger than just the number on the scale.

How I’m Feeling Overall

If I had to sum up Week 1 in a few words:

Encouraged, curious, and still very grounded.

I’m not expecting perfection. I’m not chasing extremes.

I’m just observing, learning, and allowing my body to adjust.

If You’re Thinking About Starting

If you’re reading this because you’re considering GLP-1, I hope this gives you a more realistic perspective.

Not scary. Not overhyped.

Just real.

And as always—this is something that should be discussed with your healthcare provider and tailored to you.

I’m really glad I decided to share this journey openly—it already feels like such a supportive space.

Next week, I’ll be sharing my Week 2 update, including any changes, challenges, or progress.

If you’re on this journey too (or thinking about it), I’d love to hear from you 🤍

Have you experienced ‘food noise’ before?
